Anime Review: Fushigi Yugi
Review Fushigi Yugi
Miaka Yuki is a perennially hungry young girl with the dream of going to the same high school as her best friend Yui. One day while at the library she sees a vision that leads the two to a storage room and an old book called the Universe of the four gods. The book is magic and the two get sucked into a separate world inside the book. Immediately they run into trouble but are saved by a mysterious stranger. Unfortunately for Miaka the stranger departs and Yui is sent back to her own world leaving Miaka alone to face her destiny.
Fushigi Yugi is a difficult series to gauge the quality of. On one hand it is racked with uneven pacing and a love story that just might drive you bonkers. On the other hand the story has an undeniable emotional impact and it is filled with many truly memorable characters. It is a flawed series but not so much that you will probably stop watching. If you don't care if a romantic show is a bit heavy handed this is the perfect show for you.
The animation for Fushigi Yugi is pretty good. It has it's ups and downs but it never is bad enough to detract much from the show.
Fushigi Yugi is a good show, possibly a great show. While everyone has their own opinions of how good it is, I can say with clear conscience that it is at least good enough for you to watch yourself and make up your own mind. I give Fushigi Yugi a rating of very good.
