Anime Review: Love Hina

Given how popular this show is I would say it is a bit over hyped. Not that it is a bad show mind you but if you go in with low expectations I think you might enjoy Love Hina a bit more.

Keitaro is what you would call a loser. He has been trying to get into Tokyo University and has failed the entrance exams three times. The big reason why he wants to get in is that a long time ago he made a promise to a girl (he doesn't even remember her name that he would they would get in together. Needless to say his parents have lost patience with him. The only thing he can do is to take over the job of manager at a dormitory. The interesting thing is that this is an all girl's dormitory and the girl's that live there are very unhappy with a man living there, and some these girls have a tendency to take out their frustrations violently. Poor Keitaro.

Love Hina is a romantic comedy, much heavier on the comedy than the romance. The major problem with the show is that some of the jokes are vastly overused, seeing Naru hit Keitaro because he accidentally did something perverted got old fast for me. Other than that the show is generally funny. The various characters tend to be two dimensional. Still the show does have it's better moments when it manages to break out of it's mold. The animation is crisp CG and songs are great. This isn't a great show but manages to be a decent comedy. If you are in need of a low brow but fun show this fits the bill.
