Anime Review: Key the metal idol
Review Key the metal idol written by Warpshadow Rating Very Good
A story about a robot who wants to become a famous singer? Wait come back, the show is nowhere as cheesy as the opening sentence makes it out to be.
Tokiko Mima, or key as she likes to call herself, is a robot who lives with her grandfather. One day the old man passes away. In his last message to Key he tells her that if Key can find 30,000 friends she can become human. As crazy as it sounds Key takes his words to be true and goes to Tokyo in search of people to be her friend. All is not easy for Key for people from Ajo heavy industries have an interest in as some of their people believe that she could help with their research.
Key the metal idol is a good show that could have been a great show if not for a problem in pacing. The first thirteen episodes goes along normally and then the rest of the story is crammed into two movie length episodes featuring the most monstrously lengthy exposition that I have ever heard. Those two episodes could have been easily lengthened out into another thirteen episodes and told better in that format. It would be dishonest of me to say that this show isn't any good or that you shouldn't watch it, it is just visibly flawed. The character of Tokiko is one of the more interesting characters I have seen. She is a robot in personality and yet manages not to be wooden or one dimensional. The show business component of the show fortunately manages to produce some of the better anime music I have heard in both Japanese or English if you listen to the dub track.
