When many people think anime images of hyper-kinetic science fiction action spring to mind. Lensman may be retro (and that is a plus in many people's book) but it serves those that like those kind of movies as well as a good the new stuff.

In the far future the alien empire of the Boskone is up to no good enslaving and killing anybody they can. In retaliation the rest of the people of the galaxy form the galactic patrol with their special forces being the Lensmen. One of these Lensmen discovers an important secret that could unravel the Boskone and is chased to a remote planet. There in his last act he transfers is Lens, (the special device that makes the Lensmen so cool) to a Young man named Kimball Kinison. Now not only does Kimball possess the power of the Lens on his hand, he also has the fate of the Galaxy on his shoulders.

Lensman is a pretty old anime movie based off of a book by E.E "Doc" Smith. The movie is a space Opera in the Star Wars tradition being based off a book that is said to partially inspire the movie. The animation style is old school but very well done. Even the Archaic computer animation looks interesting. I found that the plot or characters weren't that deep or interesting, however that fact that the movie moves at a breakneck pace glosses this over nicely. There are no annoying plot holes that I could see and everything about this movie is at least ok.
