Review Kite Written by Warpshadow Rating very good

When used properly sex and violence can lend impact to a show and make it feel real, anime or otherwise. That is probably the more compelling reasons they are not banned outright. Despite the fact that the action is over the top Kite exemplifies this point nicely.

When she was just a little girl, Sawa's parents were killed. Her killer (a man called Akai) took her in and trained her as an assassin. All she has left is her earrings which contain the blood of her parents. She lives a tortured life having to kill on his orders and then has to acquiesce to his sexual desires. In her bleak life there is perhaps one ray of hope and maybe one way out (other than death). His name is Oburi and he is in the same Business as Sawa.

The first and foremost element of Kite is that it is brutal, in both it's sexuality and it's action scenes. If you don't have a problem with disturbing things, that is what will make Kite an enjoyable experience for you. The fight scenes have a high intensity and are really fun to watch. As Kite only lasts about 45 minutes there isn't that much room for character development but what there is has great impact. There are two versions of Kite, each with different levels of editing. The reason behind this is that Sawa is under eighteen and it is illegal to show the sex scenes unedited. Either way it is disturbing as it was meant for shock value.
