Anime Review: Last Exile

Just like any other genre there are good adventure shows and then there are great adventure shows. Last Exile falls into the later category.

Claus Valka and Lavie Head are vanship pilots in the Norkia union. Their job is to deliver messages on their vanship (a small airplane with two seats). Their job has become more dangerous as of late since there is a war going on between the countries of Anatorrey and Diseth. One day while running a race they happen upon a downed vanship. The dying pilot leaves Claus and Lavie with his cargo, a small girl named Al and tells them to take her to the warship known as the Silvana. Little do the two know how much this will affect the world.

Last Exile is an above average anime adventure show. The general story as well as the characters and plot are all good. What really puts this show over the top is the animation, and that is a lot coming from me since I rarely consider animation quality to be a major factor in show's overall quality. Also the concept of a show that takes place largely in the skies is an innovative twist the usual adventure show. All in all this is a really fun show to watch, it is one of the best anime has to offer.
