Anime Review: Garaga
Review Garaga Written by Warpshadow Rating good/ very good
Generally I don't expect much from an action movie other than a few good car chases or fights. An actual plot beyond an excuse to have said car chases or fights is just gravy. Good thing when you watch Garaga those mashed potatoes are coming with topping.
Centuries into the future mankind has reached the stars through the use of a warp gate. The cargo ship Xebec was about to use such a gate before it was blown off course. The ship was forced to crash land on a strange planet. The crew and the two passengers stored in cold sleep have to not only find a way to survive but also get off the planet. As can be expected it is a dangerous planet full of monsters, ape soldiers and even more insidious threats. Hopefully the dashing young pilot can save the day.
At first glance Garaga looks like a typical science fiction action movie and for the most part it is. This easily could have been a boring and generally brain dead movie but there are plenty of plot twists to keep the viewer interested. The characters are not that interesting but given that this is an action movie this is forgivable. This movie was made in the eighties and the animation and music firmly remind the viewer of that fact. Garaga is a movie that I would recommend simply because it is easy to watch, it's not great but works for simple enjoyment.
