Anime Review: Full Moon wo Sagashite
Review Full Moon wo Sagashite Written by Warpshadow rating very good/ excellent
The main strength on most show anime is the ability to appeal to the viewers emotions (although that is the case with any show it is the sappy part of people that really digs Shojo anime). Even after several years and hundreds of shows reviewed few match Full Moon wo Sagashite in this respect.
Mitsuki is a young girl with a dire fate. She has throat cancer but refuses to undergo an operation for fear that might damage her vocal chords. She is visited by two Shinigami who tell her that she only has one year to live. In order for her to pass peacefully into death they agree to help her achieve an otherwise impossible dream. More specifically they turn her into a sixteen year old so she can pass an audition and fulfill her dream of becoming a singer.
Full Moon wo Sagashite is an interesting change for those only passingly familiar with the magical girl genre of anime as it retains many of the basic principles while discarding the formulaic baggage that ties down Sailor Moon and it's ilk. The quality of the show is a bit uneven, with many of the eariler episodes being esstentially filler but the later episodes being the real meat of the show. Even the earlier do have point as they are used to build the foundations of the various relationships in the show. The music for the show, especially the various ending songs are very well done and actually tie into the show. Overall this is a great show and one that I fully recommend.
