Anime Review: Saber Marionette J
Review Saber Marionette J Written by Warpshadow Rating very good
Watching this show I realized that action combines well and even enhances males centered romance anime shows. There is nothing like having to save the world to make a man grow a spine, an organ that seems to be lacking in many romance show protagonists.
The world of Terra 2 is one that is populated only by men. One of these men is the plucky but down on his luck Otaru Mamiya. One day by accident he wanders into an abandoned museum and wakes up a girl sleeping there. She is not a real girl but a Marionette, a robot created to fill the void left by the lack of women on Terra 2. Her name is Lime and she is different from most marionettes since unlike them she has the full range of human emotions.
Saber Marionette J is a romance for guys show with a good deal of action and comedy thrown in. The action is not only well done but it also helps Otaru differentiate himself from the wimpy losers that populate the genre. There is also a good deal of character development among the marionettes especially towards the end of the show. Overall Saber Marionette J sports a fun and interesting cast of characters making this show head and shoulders above the pack and well worth watching. A weak beginning and somewhat dated animation keep this title from a perfect score but still shouldn't stop you from watching.
