Anime Review: Legend of black heaven
Review Legend of black heaven aka kacho oji Written by Warpshadow rating very good
Anime fans are quick to state that their hobby is not just for kids. While many shows do look oriented towards younger viewers there are also shows like Legend of black heaven that are clearly aimed at adults.
When he was younger Oji Tanaka was the lead guitarist for a band called black heaven. That was before he got married, had a kid and got a job pushing paper. One day a mysterious woman named Layla Yuki shows up at a restaurant that he frequents and says that she will take him to heaven. Thinking that it is an affair he takes her up on the offer but instead it is a chance to play guitar. It so happens that the only thing that could power an ultimate weapon needed to win a war in space is Oji's guitar playing.
Simply by making the protagonist in Black Heaven an adult dealing with their mid-life crisis rather than the usual teenage hero the show is quite original. The other main plus to the show is that even though it is limited there is some really good rock music, especially the opening theme. The series deals more with Oji's personal troubles and reconciling his passion with his mundane life than action or dealing with the enemy. These factors make an otherwise unambitious show to be something well worth watching.
