Anime Review: Full Metal Panic Fumofu
Review Full Metal Panic FumofuWritten by WarpshadowRating very good
As a child when I saw a meal with many different types of foods mixed in I developed the strange habit of sorting out all of the meal’s components into little piles and eat certain bits and try to ignore other parts of the meal. In a sense this is what Fumofu is, an attempt to do that very same thing.
Sosuke Sagara is a highly skilled military expert and mecha pilot. That would be all well and good if this were an action military show with mecha. Full Metal Panic Fumofu on the other hand is a high school comedy meaning that Sosuke is a fish out of water. He is charged with protecting Kaname Chidori but in reality she just ends up with having to deal with Sosuke’s latest attempt to solve everyday problems with excessive firepower.
As said before Full Metal Panic Fumofu is a comedy, eschewing the serious action of the first Full Metal Panic series. While Fufmofu is a sequel little to no foreknowledge of previous material is needed to enjoy this show. There is some question as to how much mileage the concept of Sosuke being completely inept at social situations and thus reacting with a level head and usually explosives can offer. The premise though does at least offer some good laughs as the character of Sosuke is rather unique to anime and the execution of jokes is well done. Fumofu can also be taken a twist on a traditional comic duo with Sosuke being the crazy type despite his deadpan attitude as opposed to Kaname who is the supposed straight man even if she yells a lot (she is even usually equipped with the paper fan that is typical in Japanese comic duos). In short this is a show worth watching.
