Anime Review: Jubei Chan 2
Review Jubei Chan 2Written by WarpshadowRating very good/ excellent
I have realized that the original Jubei Chan actually could have been better. The main reason for this epiphany is that I have just seen the second season of Jubei Chan and it is even better than the first.
In his life Yagyu Jubei made many enemies but none cost him more dearly than the battle with the Kita Yagyu. The battle was not really resolved and so in the modern day when the members of the Kita Yagyu learn of Jubei's return they decide to go after Jiyu. At the same time a new girl named Freesia shows up at the school Jiyu attends and befriends Jiyu. At almost the same time a young child bearing the lovely eye-patch and a white sword-fighter appear to cause even more trouble for Jiyu.
There is a big problem with many sequels in that they are created for the purpose of making more money when the story is already finished. While the first Jubei chan was a complete story this show manages to construct a new story with all of the impact of the last. It also builds upon the first season so you probably want to watch that first (especially if you want to understand what all the incidental characters are saying).
The real improvement of this show over the first season is in the fights and animation quality. The sword fights in Jubei chan 2 are some of the best I have ever seen in anime. This is not to say that fights take over the show by any stretch of the imagination. Character development, drama and comedy all take a prominent place in this show. If you have seen the first series or just want to watch some really nifty sword fighting this is a great show to watch.
