Anime Review: Rune soldier Louie

Rune soldier Louie is a simple show about a simple man. It's a comedy and decent but not a great one.
Merrill (The thief) Melissa (The cleric) and Genie (The Warrior) are three female adventurers. If you are at all familiar with fantasy games or anime you can see their predicament, they lack a wizard. The problem is that most wizards aren't that keen on moldy dungeons and other such adventuring. The only wizard that is, is Louie who is a dunderhead who acts before thinking. While our adventuring ladies would like nothing more than to dump Louie Melissa receives a vision from her god saying that Louie is her champion and she is to serve him.
It has been a rather common idea in fantasy to turn the whole deal into a parody and Rune Soldier is no different from most attempts at the idea. The major selling point is that it is a created by Ryo Mizuno who also created Record of Lodoss War (Melissa even worships Mylee, who is a god in the Lodoss pantheon). Rune soldier Louie is for the most part just another episodic comedy with a bit of fan service thrown in for good measure. There is something of an ending plot but that isn't worth trudging through over twenty episodes to get to though if you are looking for a semi-serious adventure. Overall Rune Soldier Louie is only for those who want a fantasy flavored comedy.
