Anime Review: Kamichu
Review KamichuWritten by WarpshadowRating good/ very good
Not all anime shows have to give you a jolt to be good. Kamichu is more of a show to calm you down rather than wind you up.
Yurie is a normal middle school girl or at least she she was before she woke up one day and realized that she had become a god. The problem was that she had no idea what kind of god she had become. At the urging of her friends she went up on the roof to test her new powers but ends up accidentally summoning a typhoon. When she finds out what she has done she races back to the school to save the makeshift clubroom that Kenji (a boy that Yurie likes that doesn't really notice her) uses. Being a god is harder than it looks.
While a story about a god hardly seems like the kind of show that would be described as slice of life anime but the description fits Kamichu to a tea. This is a rather cute show but that cuteness does not come at the price of being over-comcerialized or being fodder for lolicons. The other big reason for watching this show is it's low key way of dealing with the Japanese concept of animism. Like most slice of life shows Kamichu has little in the way of a central plot other than telling the story of Yurie's first year of godhood. This is a show that is best viewed as a show to clam the nerves of a stressed out anime fan.
