Anime Review: Ellcia
Review EllciaWritten by WarpshadowRating fair
Fantasy like any genre of anything is at it’s best when it original, especially since the creators can break the laws of physics in the work. To paraphrase fantasy is at it’s best when it isn’t like Ellcia.
In the distant past the four fingers of the god Arusu became the four islands of god. In the more recent past the kingdom of Megalonia has found ruins of an ancient civilization allowing them to become a military powerhouse and conquer their continent. Their sights are now set on the four islands and princess Crystal in particular has taken an interest in the legend of the ship of god, the Ellcia. The legend states the ship can only be commanded by the chosen one. The most likely candidate is the prince in captivity of Megalonia although fate has important things in store for Aira, a simple pirate girl.
Although I did write an entire paragraph about the plot of Ellcia, I could have simply write generic evil empire versus chosen one from central casting blah blah blah ancient super weapon yadda yadda and it would have sufficed. The lackluster plot of Ellcia is matched by a lackluster cast of characters. This more true of the protagonist and her gang of sidekicks than it is of the royal family of Megalonia. The animation is pretty good although eye candy is not nearly enough to hold this Oav together. Perhaps needless to say I do not recommend this Oav to anybody with an alternative way to spend two hours save for watching paint dry.
