There aren’t that many period dramas in anime but that is only part of the reason that anime fans should watch Le Chevalier Deon. The other is that it is a show that is overflowing with production values.

It is said that words have power but Deon De Beaumont is about to find out how true that can be. The mystery begins when the undecaying corpse of his sister Lia is found floating down the Seine river. As a knight in the service to King Louis the 15th he is commissioned to carry out Lia’s mission as well as finding out who was behind the plot to kill her. Although he will find many allies and enemies on his journey perhaps his greatest asset may be the soul of his sister Lia that resides in Deon’s body.

Some anime shows may be rife with clichés but I am fairly certain that there isn’t too many shows set in the 18th century that feature a supernatural twist. Even so this show doesn’t hang it’s hat on it’s weirder aspects and sports a plot every bit as interesting as the show’s concept. Even with the supernatural elements the essence of the time and setting are well displayed throughout the series. The show is a bit slow to show it’s full colors but when it does it is really fun to watch. To top it all off the animation is one of the better examples of what modern television animation can accomplish. Overall Le Chevalier Deon is one of the better anime shows out there and I give it my recommendation.
